Introduction:
Talent-Relay has partnered with Global Earth Observation client to onboard an experienced Data Science Manager into their expanding science and research team, in Luxembourg.
Our partner leverages satellite imagery, thermal infrared and multi-spectral data, to deliver valuable insights into agriculture, climate, and commercial clients.
The team is responsible for developing advanced algorithms to transform satellite data into actionable information.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful Data Science Manager will lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists. In this role, you’ll drive scientific innovation, ensure high-quality model development, and collaborate cross-functionally to translate business goals into scalable solutions.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing data science team
- Drive innovation in geospatial and imaging science solutions
- Define team objectives, best practices, and workflows
- Conduct technical reviews, provide hands-on coding support, and guide architecture decisions
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and program management teams
- Hire, onboard, and retain top scientific talent
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years in data science, including Earth observation, geospatial, or computer vision experience
- 2+ years in a leadership role, managing and growing teams
- Strong knowledge of supervised/unsupervised learning, statistical analysis, and cloud infrastructure
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Master’s or PhD in environmental sciences, mathematics, physics, or relevant engineering field
- Experience with geospatial and Earth observation tools (e.g., satellite data processing, Rasterio/GDAL, GIS)
- Knowledge of surface energy balance modeling, soil physics, or hydrology
- Expertise in deep learning (e.g., CNNs, RNNs) and ensemble modeling techniques
- Understanding of MLOps best practices for model deployment and monitoring
- Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms
- DevOps experience (Docker, Kubernetes)
