Introduction:

Talent-Relay has partnered with a pioneering space and data analytics company, to onboard an experienced Cloud Data Engineer into their growing team. My client is building a new Earth Observation constellation and leveraging advanced software to unlock the potential of thermal infrared imagery. Their mission is to deliver high spatio-temporal resolution thermal infrared data to enhance food and water security, benefit the environment, and support critical applications across industries.

The Cloud Data Engineer will play a key role in provisioning and maintaining highly scalable (petabyte-scale) data infrastructure using modern cloud technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform. This position requires an experienced, hands-on professional who can lead technical discussions, optimize data pipelines, and collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers and data scientists to implement scalable solutions. Skills & Requirements:

  • 5+ years of combined experience in Data Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or DevOps roles.
  • Strong experience with deploying and managing cloud infrastructure (AWS, preferred).
  • Expertise in designing, deploying, and maintaining data pipelines in the cloud.
  • Strong experience of Python and Python data stack.
  • Hands-on experience provisioning and maintaining clusters – Kubernetes, Docker
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code frameworks (e.g., Terraform).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline development and implementation.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle, from design to deployment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a keen interest in optimizing system performance.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team.

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS.
  • Optimize performance and scalability of existing data pipelines.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain robust data pipelines in the cloud.
  • Lead technical and architectural discussions to drive innovation.
  • Take ownership of system components from concept to delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineering and data science teams to implement scalable solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members where needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in AWS cloud services.
  • Experience with MLOps best practices, including monitoring, versioning, and maintaining models in production.
  • Experience in Earth observation, AI, geospatial analysis, imaging science, or computer vision.
